So, I was up visiting Jer & Shamala in Worcester. We were making our requisite visit to That’s Entertainment on Park Ave, because comics. I come around the corner from where we parked, looked up, and stopped dead in my tracks. Jelly’s. In Worcester. Jelly’s. Worcester.
See, Jelly’s was (is) a venerable institution in Hawaii. It’s where you went to buy the music that wasn’t sold in the mall stores, and to buy comics and role playing games. It’s where you went to get supplies to be an alterno-geek, back in the 80s and 90s. (And perhaps beyond, I don’t know. I left Hawaii in ’96.)
So, to see this sign (with the same logo) on the other side of the damned country… was somewhat weird.
After I explained all of this to Jer & Shamala, we went in to the store. It turns out the store was being run by a cousin of Norm’s, and so it was, in fact, an actual Jelly’s. In Worcester.
Go figure.
