This tidbit of information comes to you from a physical therapist I had back in Maryland:
Knitting and crocheting injuries have their own ICD code. “2015 ICD-9-CM Diagnosis Code E012.0: Activities involving knitting and crocheting.” This code will be replaced by the equivalent 2015 ICD-10-CM Code of Y93.D1 when the US makes the transition on October 1, 2015.
I was trying to find the appropriate bit of this page to include on this blog post, but there is too much! I think I’m going to have to stick with my favorite part:
Home > 2015 ICD-9-CM Diagnosis Codes > Supplementary Classification Of External Causes Of Injury And Poisoning E000-E999 > Activity E001-E030 > Activities involving arts and handcrafts E012-
This last bit leads us to the whole E012 tree (which is, admittedly, short).
I find it amusing that there are only three categories of arts and crafts that get called out by name. Surely there are other hobbies more likely to result in injury than knitting and sewing? What would your favorite arts & crafts related ICD code be?
