Since you were all so incredibly helpful with the first InDesign question (no, seriously, you were), I thought I’d try again.
I may have need to convert a bunch of QuarkXPress files to InDesign. I know that InDesign itself can mostly handle import, but I want the best possible conversion, since it’s gonna be my job to make sure the InDesign output matches the XPress source exactly.
Have any of you ever played with any of the conversion tools? In particular, I’m thinking of Q2ID for CS6. But, if any of you have any better ideas (or cheaper ideas!), I’m all years.
I’ve always used the import feature in Indesign itself, never had much problems with it. Admittedly though, most of my documents are relatively simple in terms of advanced features used.
I would just try it, and see if anything breaks.
Carel: Thank you. Do you know if it’s necessary to have a copy of Quark to import the file? The other party in this project seems to think that’s the case, and won’t hand over the file to just let me try. 🙂
No, you can just import the files. I never needed a copy (importing QXP 3.3/4 files into InDesign CS1/CS2. I don’t think I ever imported a QXP file after those versions!)
