For those who didn’t receive this via email, there’s going to be a tribute to Evi Nemeth at this year’s USENIX Security Symposium in Washington, DC. Even those not registered for the conference are invited to attend the tribute.
Evi Nemeth played a huge role in shaping USENIX, the Advanced Computing Systems Association, writing about network and system administration, and teaching and mentoring generations of students. An avid sailor, she spent much of the past decade sailing around the world. In June of this year, the boat on which Evi was sailing went missing off the western coast of New Zealand.
We will join together on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the Regency A room at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill at the 22nd USENIX Security Symposium to remember and celebrate Evi and her key role in our community. In her honor, we invite you to wear the 9-layer OSI shirt that she designed. If you have a shirt, please wear it! For those of you who do not have one, but wish to honor Evi, the Internet Systems Consortium (ISC) has generously donated several shirts that we will make available. Between the reception and the conference rump session, we will have an open mic at which attendees are invited to share their favorite recollections of Evi. Many thanks to Steve Bellovin, Casey Henderson, Margo Seltzer, USENIX, and ISC for making this possible!
Even if you are not registered for the main conference, we encourage you to join us for this half hour.
Sincerely,
Tadayoshi Kohno
