If you’re here, you probably know that I’ve decided to knit the Shipwreck shawl, shown below. (More pictures available by following the link.)
I have ordered the yarn shown below, which is Hand Maiden Sea Silk (70% silk, 30% seacell; the seacell seemed oddly appropriate for the project).
The shawl calls for 5,000 size 8/0 beads. I need help choosing which beads to use. Thanks to a suggestion from Deidre, I’ve narrowed it down to iris beads, which I love. But now, the hard choice: color.
Here’s where you come in.
Let me know which one of these you would go with. Since there are going to be 5,000 of the things, you can choose up to 2 different colors, if you think they’ll mix and match well.
I know which ones (yes, there are two) I’m leaning towards, but I also know I have a lot of artistic, creative, visually-aware friends out there, so give a girl a hand, will ya? 🙂
Mahalo!

I like B or E because of the green/blue glints and opalescence; I think that will highlight the water tones in the yarn.
B, D and A all seem appealing. With A I’d use it in tandem with one of the others.
I like B, E, and G, in that order. D is also an option, but I like the others better, because there is a bit of a contrast between the base color of the bead and the yarn so you’ll be able to see the beads a bit better.
I like D
I vote option F because there is a hint of that purple tint in the yarn that will be enhanced by the beads.
Or F, yeah.
D, E, and G, but leaning towards E and G.
We aren’t helping, I don’t think.
You are helping! I know a bit about each of you (some more than others, granted) and your senses of style and dress, so I can use that to measure your responses some. Also, it’s pretty clear that B is in the funning, and D, too. Hell, with 5,000 beads, I might be able to go to 3 colors. Oooh, or maybe some clear beads, just to catch light!
Crap. Now I’m not helping. 🙂
B E and G in that order.
I think you need beads that will pick up the yarn color. Mixing them might be good. The silver ones, the peacock ones, and maybe some clear to keep it from being overwhelming.
Gak. Tragedy. The skeins of yarn that JBW have of the yarn shown above are from different dye lots, and are noticeably different to the eye. Unfortunately, JBW does not have any more Hand Maiden in colors I want to work with for this project. BUT! Loopy Ewe has 4 skeins of Hand Maiden in an even better color, I think!

BTW, y’all can tell me to shut the hell up about the damned yarn and beads, already, if you so desire. I won’t be offended. 🙂
It’s your thread! Carry on!
Craft nerding is always welcome.
Annalivia, are you saying that Meri can spin a yarn like noone else?
I think the color linked from TLE is perfect.
With the D beads.
