Hey, fiber nuts (of the yarn variety, that is). I have a quest for you.
I very much want to knit the Maple Leaf Knit Shawl as a gift. I want to knit it for a few reasons. First, it’s a beautiful pattern. Second, it’s an interesting pattern. Third, I happen to have a whole lot of Canadian family-by-proxy, so this would make a wonderful gift for one of them.
I don’t have a lot of money at the moment, but I do have a $100 gift certificate for Jimmy Beans Wool.I’ve been looking and looking until my eyes are crossed, but I can’t seem to find the perfect yarn. This is where you come in.
If you feel like it, browse through JBW, and find me a yarn that meets these criteria:
- Appropriate color for the shawl (so, a red-based tone; not apposed to variegated, but would prefer tonal)
- Yardage of roughly 1,000 yards
- Coming in as close to $100 as possible
I promise pictures of the project along the way, and may even consider a knitted gift to the person who helps me find the yarn I ultimately pick.
Oh, and the yarn should be fingering weight.
Dare I say it? Unravel a sweater.
Hmmm. If only I had the thrift-hand-shop-fu to find such awesome sweaters. 🙂
Well, no guarantee that you find something in one trip, but it doesn’t hurt to take a field trip. Does anything in my stash look feasible? Search my stash with the word “recycled”
I’d love to go with you I’d you are interested in a filed trip.
Field trip! Sounds like fun, if you don’t mind sharing your super secret stash-finding haunts. 😉
I’m free just about whenever. We should go soon though since many stores in this area take sweaters away when it gets warmer.
I have a bunch of stuff to do today and tomorrow. How does mid-Monday morning work for you?
Good for me. We could meet in laurel/savage? How much time do you have on Monday? I’ll start thinking about which places to hit and a logical route.
I get out of physical therapy at 9, so anytime after that. I’m probably good for between 2-4 hours of tromping about, depending on fatigue / pain levels that day.
Yay! So excited. 🙂
