Hi, everybody!
On Thursday, I decided to start a new project: the Vivid blanket by tincanknits. (See one of the (unblocked) completed squares below.)
This is kind of silly of me, since it’s going to require a silly amount of finishing, but it’s pretty, and the individual squares are simple and portable. Armed with this idea, I stopped at Serial Knitters on my way up to Jenn and Jim’s. I’d already decided that I would be working in worsted weight (because the thought of doing a full-sized blanket in fingering made my hands hurt).
Having started down the worsted road, I chose Cascade 220 for three reasons:
- I know it has good stitch definitions.
- I am not rolling in dough at the moment, and it is inexpensive.
- It comes in a lot of colors.
So, I picked up two skeins of 220, and have been knitting away on the first skein ever since. I’ve just wrapped up my 4th square, and just about finished off the skein. So, call it 50-55 yards per square. Here’s where you come in (maybe). Do you have 50-55 yards of worsted weight wool laying around that you’d like to donate to the blanket? (For laundry care reasons, I’d prefer to stick with 100% wool, so all the yarn is consistent.) I think it’d be fun to see what kind of craziness we can come up with. Based on some quick math, I’ll be knitting a total of 144 squares, so feel free to send me your wool scraps, and I’ll knit them up and add them to the pile of completed squares!
(If you want to donate wool to the cause, drop me a note, and I’ll send you a snail-mail address. Also, I’ll be at this for a while, so keep me in mind as you wrap up knitting projects! 🙂 )
Shoots, I might just have a random ball of 220 lying around. Away from my stash at the moment but will certainly look when I’m back.
