Ask LazyWeb (Seattle Edition): Hair salon that does strange requests?

TL; DR: I’m looking for a hair salon in the Seattle area that will let me bring in my own hair dye.

For want of a tote bag.

TL;DR: meri babbling about a bag that doesn’t exist.  (more…)

A whale of a good time.

My little point and shoot camera really wasn’t up to the task of taking photos on the wonderful whale-watching tour that Terri and I went on this past Wednesday. However, the wonderful guides at Western Prince Whale & Wildlife Tours got some great pictures, and were kind enough to share. So, I get to share with you!

If you happen to be in the area, I can’t recommend these folks more highly. They were professional, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and a whole lot of fun.

Ask LazyWeb: Pay-Per-Click Firms?

I have a project to find a pay-per-click firm for a company to partner with. They have some criteria:

  • Large enough to handle multiple large-scale projects simultaneously
  • Small enough that they don’t think that anything short of landing McDonalds or Coke as a client isn’t worth their time
  • Based in North America
  • Can actually lay out their approach to PPC to you, instead of saying something along the lines of, “Well, PPC is more of an art than a science…”

And that’s about it.

I’m about to dive into our friend Google and do some searching, but if any of you have any recommendations (or anti-recommendations) (that aren’t just, “Ew. PPC evil.”), I’d love to hear them.

Mahalo!

Ask LazyWeb: Hosted ticketing systems?

Before you tell me to install RT, let me stop you: I don’t have a host to run this ticketing system on. That’s why I’m looking for a hosted system. Do any of you have any recommendations (or anti-recommendations) for such a thing?

My wish list is pretty minimal:

  • Queues
  • Email integration
  • Multiple users
  • Reasonable UI
  • Cheap (Free is even better)

I get the feeling this is going to be one of those, “pick three” sort of things, but I figured it can’t hurt to ask.

Have you any wool?

Hi, everybody!

On Thursday, I decided to start a new project: the Vivid blanket by tincanknits. (See one of the (unblocked) completed squares below.) (more…)

Love the one you’re with.

See, I’ve signed up for the Game of Thrones-inspired Stormborn Shawl mystery knit along [1]. And I’m loving the pattern. It’s clever and geometric and just makes sense. It has unusual shapes in it, and I can understand why they’re there. It’s challenging enough to keep me interested, but not so challenging that I’m spending more time tinking than knitting. I should be having an absolute blast with this.

But I’m not.

All because I’m pretty unhappy with the yarn I’m using.

[HiveMind: Seattle] Is there a doctor in the house?

Well, not one of you, necessarily. But I’m hoping that one (or more) of you can point me to some awesome doctors.

That’s right, kids. It’s time to make the rounds and find me a new passel of doctors to try to keep the creaky meri boat afloat.

Finished Object: Eden Prairie

Since some people have asked, here is a photo of the completed Eden Prairie shawl, on the very dirty basement carpet.

2014.05.14 - Eden Prairie

It isn’t perfect, and it still needs to be blocked, but I’m pretty fond of it. I would definitely make this pattern again. I think this one in particular is being sent to my grandmother as a belated Mother’s Day gift.

Locals Only: Requesting Assistance with Cleaning

TL; DR: meri is asking for warm bodies to carry things outside.

If any of you happen to be available this Saturday (or potentially Sunday) to help G and I make the final push on this whole “decluttering of the house” thing, we would both be eternally grateful for your assistance. Mostly, what we’re looking for is people who are willing and able to pick up stuff that we point at and take it (often up stairs or down stairs) outside to a waiting truck and/or pile. We will do all of the actual sorting, it’s just help getting things from various points in the house to the actual outdoors with which we need help.

In exchange for your kind assistance, we offer beer / soft drinks / coffee / tea / water, and pizza. And, a good chance that you might find some stuff that you want in the stuff we’re getting rid of. Also, this will likely be the last “social” thing that G and I do before we take Mr. Soule’s advice and head west.

If any of you are interested (or not interested, but inclined to help), please send me a message, and I’ll send you our address and contact info.

Many thanks!

Mary

CAVEAT: If you have cat or dust allergies, you should probably sit this one out. 4 cats. Lots of dust.
