Time, Time, Time
I was talking about this with Jenn the last time I saw her, and it came to me again this morning, so I thought I’d share.
I normally wake up at 5AM. This seems like a stupid early time to many of my friends, but to me, it’s just time to wake up. However, with the latest round of sleep disorder, I’ve often found myself awake at 4AM. While this is only a difference of one hour, that one hour has a huge psychological difference to me.
5AM is morning. Yes, it’s early morning, but it’s still morning. 4AM is still the middle of the night, part of yesterday. (Or at least, it was when Jenn and I originally had this conversation. WIth the growing insomniac problems, it’s starting to appear normal. Yay, shifting baseline.) But… still yesterday.
But I’m not sure (either intellectually or instinctually) where the tipping point is. Is it 4:30? 4:59? Or is any time before 5AM ungodly?
I have no idea why I’m writing about this, other than it popped into my head immediately when I woke up, so obviously, it must be shared.
Once It’s Actually Today…
Whether or not it is currently today, it will eventually be today (er, tomorrow? Sunday!), and I have mighty plans for Sunday.
Sunday, I shall:
- Go to Target and grab some staples and a couple of prescriptions
- Finish a super surprise knitting project
- Finish the Brownstone sweater
- Set up my sewing machine in the craft room (in a way that I can still use my yarn swift and ball winder, and also get the machine back out easily enough to take to classes)
- Sew a couple of super surprise projects (well, really, practice things I’ve recently learned, but with much the same result)
- Take pictures of many things
Assuming my body holds up to all this, it should be quite the fun day. I’m very excited!
It’s always today. As far as projects go; there’s always tomorrow.
My cut off is going to bed by 6am….any point after 6 is the next day and then I’m messed up. Especially when work is at noon
There does seem to be some magic formulas between 4_and 5. Lots of projects!!! I got you have fun!
For me, the Awake switch is not allowed to turn on before 4:20 am. I allow only a one minute grace period–which means that, if my Awake switch flips on any time before 4:19 and stubbornly freezes in place, I close my eyes and lie very still and pretend I’m dead until 4:20 (or 4:19) rolls around. Seems ridiculous, but considering my Awake switch often refuses to switch off until after midnight, I need to employ all the strategies I can to get adequate rest.
Happy crafting today. 🙂
One of the interesting things the sleep doc told me is to have no clock in visual range. She said that research shows you will fall back sleep better if you ink l don’t know the time. She also said to set an alarm every day so that you know it wake you up. Haven’t implemented these yet.
